Happy New Year to every one! How did you celebrate the coming of 2007. We just had our usual media noche at exactly 12mn and just watched the new year countdown on t.v. We didn't buy any fireworks and firecrackers as it leaves the air smoky and polluted and our neighbors already have too many so we just enjoy ourselves watching them.
What are your traditions or rituals during new year to usher in good luck? At our house we usually wear something with polkadots and the lucky color of the year. We also buy round fruits for media noche. They say that polkadots and the round fruits simbolizes money. We also put coins at the front door and scatter it all over the house and also in the pocket (and shake to make some noise) for prosperity and wealth. And if you don't wan't some firecrackers/fireworks we usually make noise with kaldero and spoon or turotot to drive away the evil spirits or the negative energy.
As usual we refer to feng shui or the chinese lucky charms that if you have them at your house or if you bring with you everywhere in your wallet/bag or as accessories will give you good luck. These charms, sometimes in different shapes and sizes (sometimes used with semi-precious stones when worn as necklace or bracelet) simbolizes prosperity, wealth, success, love, safety in travel or safety for the house and for good health (depending on the symbol of the charm).
I hope 2007, the year of the pig will bring good luck and prosperity to everyone of us.
